Research pregress of Sestrin2 in cardiovascular diseases

Abstract:

Sestrin2（Sesn2），a member of the Sesns family，is a highly conservative stress-induced protein，which can be up-regulated by DNA damage，oxidative stress and hypoxia. The up-regulated Sesn2 acts as an antioxidant and exerts protection effect under a variety of physiological and pathological conditions. This review has described that the regulatory factor p53，nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2（Nrf2） and hypoxia inducible factor-1（HIF-1） is able to induce the expression of Sesn2，while Sesn2 can regulate downstream AMP-activated protein kinase（AMPK）/mammalian target of rapamycin（mTOR） and autophagy signals，playing an impor－tant role in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. This review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the protective role of Sesn2 in diseases of heart and blood vessels.
